Privacy Policy

Last updated: November 1, 2026

KanjiYa (“we”, “us”) is operated by Bazooka, Inc., a company based in Japan. This policy explains what information we collect when you use kanjiya.com, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Information we collect

Names you look up. When you type a name, we use it to show how it’s written in Japanese. If the name isn’t in our directory yet, we send the name (and nothing else about you) to an AI service to work out its pronunciation, and we save the name and its reading so it can be shown to other visitors later. Please only enter names you’re comfortable with us keeping.

Technical information. Like most websites, our servers receive your IP address and basic browser information. We record your IP address together with the names you submit and the designs you upload, to prevent abuse and enforce rate limits.

Your design. When you add a T-shirt to your cart, the print image (your name as it will be printed) is uploaded to our storage so our print partner can produce it. Print images are deleted automatically after 30 days.

Orders. Checkout is handled by Stripe, which collects your name, email address, shipping address and payment details. We never see or store your full card number. We receive your name, email address and shipping address from Stripe, and pass your shipping details to Printful, which prints and ships your order.

Messages. If you email us, we keep your message and email address so we can reply.

On your device. Your cart and the kanji you pick are saved in your browser’s local storage, not on our servers. We don’t use advertising or analytics cookies.

How we use information

  • To show your name in Japanese and create your design
  • To process, produce, ship and support your order, including refunds
  • To prevent fraud, spam and abuse of the site
  • To meet our legal, tax and accounting obligations

Who we share information with

We share information only with the providers that help us run KanjiYa, and only what they need:

  • Cloudflare — hosting, database, file storage and bot protection (Turnstile)
  • XREA (GMO Digirock) — email for our support address
  • Stripe — payment processing
  • Printful — printing and shipping
  • Anthropic and OpenAI — working out the pronunciation of new names (the name only)
  • Google Fonts — web fonts (your browser downloads fonts directly from Google)

We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t share it for targeted advertising.

International transfers

We’re based in Japan, and our providers process information in the United States and other countries. When we send your information abroad, we rely on providers that protect it under their own privacy and security commitments.

How long we keep information

  • Print images: deleted automatically after 30 days
  • Order records: kept for as long as tax and accounting laws require
  • Other information: kept only as long as needed for the purposes above

Your choices and rights

You can ask us to access, correct or delete your personal information by emailing supportkanjiya.com. Depending on where you live (for example, California), you may have additional privacy rights. We won’t treat you differently for using them, and we’ll respond within the time required by applicable law.

Children

KanjiYa isn’t directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their personal information.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we’ll post the new version here and update the date at the top.
