How your name is written in Japanese
Japanese has three writing systems. Foreign names are written in katakana, so this is how your name usually appears in Japan — Michael becomes マイケル. Hiragana, the rounder script used for native Japanese words, writes the same sounds as まいける.
Most foreign names have no official kanji. Instead, kanji can be chosen for their sounds — this is called ateji (当て字). KanjiYa matches each sound of your name to kanji with that reading and shows what every character means, so you can pick a combination you like.

Is there a correct kanji for my name?
Usually not. Foreign names don't have official kanji, so the characters are chosen for their sounds (ateji). We show several options with the meaning of each character, and you choose the one you like.
Can I choose different kanji?
Yes. On your name's page, open “Explore more Japanese Kanji” and pick a kanji for each sound. You can also print your name in hiragana or katakana.
What if my name isn't listed?
Type it anyway. We work out how it sounds in Japanese in a few seconds and show kanji for it.
How long does delivery take?
Each T-shirt is printed to order. It ships within 3–7 business days and arrives in 7–13 business days in total. Shipping within the US is free.
Can I return my T-shirt?
Because every shirt is made to order, we can't accept returns for a change of mind or the wrong size. If it arrives damaged or misprinted, we'll replace it or refund you. Refund Policy
